In the latest sale of the British peoples assets, the Government sold off 62% of Royal Mail based on a bargain basement valuation of 3.3 billion…so much for paying “experts” to give a sale price valuation…..better to have thrown a dart at the board with the valuation prices set between 3 billion and 10 billion, which was the higher estimate.
In Brazil, when the government sells the peoples assets, it intelligently tends to retain 51% of the action: .ie Petrobras. The stupidity of the Thatcher legacy is that the assets of the British people are slowly being sold off with many of those companies being utilities.
Utilities generally operate as a monopoly and are therefore a licence to print money: Water, Electricity, Gas, Mail, etc., etc.; with most of the utilities ending up in the hands of foreign limited companies, foreign hedge funds or foreign government owned companies: never doubt the ability of a group of companies in the same field to move prices up in the manner of a rat pack, illegal though it may be…prove it !
Thus will the Royal Mail’s future destiny lie, with three price hikes already in the pipeline, profitability can’t ever fail; along with such cost cutting Canadian practices as giving new housing developments a Hobson’s choice of whether they get no home delivery or the people in the development have to collect their mail from street side mail boxes for each new development area; paying workers for their shift and not by the hour i.e. a delivery person would receive, say 8 hours pay even if they finished their round in 6 hours…this will lead mail delivery persons to delay delivery to certain streets to say 3 or 4 days a week instead of the six days at present to allow them to finish their shift quicker – not permitted, but indubitably done in Canada !! The weekly days for delivery will almost certainly be cut from six days to five etc., etc.!!
There will not be any choice for the majority of people; private mail companies will just cherry pick the most profitable routes with the highest volumes. Thank you Maggie !
In this wonderful new world where everybody and their dog are called “professional,” the question must be raised if this term has any real meaning? Plumber; Professional Plumber; Sanitary Engineer. Professional health care workers: in some cases with no on the job training, hired for 8 pound and hour and marked up to 24 pounds and hour to sell to the NHS…….. mind boggeling profits in the middle!
In the real world, most of the information memorized to pass exams rapidly vanishes, as virtually all workers who belong to so-called profesional associations will admit that after a few years on the job, the vast majority of what they know and practice was learnt on the job….doesn’t this sound like tradesmen…learning on the job!
With the sell off of the Royal Mail, it appears that 66.6% of the shares were reserved for the chosen few: with only 33.3% reserved for the hoi polloi sometimes called the plebs. Included in the chosen few were executives of the Royal Mail, the chosen underwriters of the issue along with their inside friends and clients including, it is reported, a friend of a friend of George Osborne.
Because the issue was grossly undervalued, and possibly because of inside information about the range of valuations placed on the issue (up to 10 billion) the senior executives of Royal Mail along with friends and insiders made obscene windfall killings on the issue. The Plebs that I know who wanted to buy over 10,000 were issued nothing and those that tried to buy up to 10k were permitted to buy a plebian maximum amount of : 0.75K (7,500) !! Difference: Plebs maximum gain about 350 pounds; insiders: the sky’s the limit BUT some are known to have made up to 250K. Nothing has changed since the dirty thirties; the rich get richer and the poor get poorer! Nice Eyes !!
One of the great arguments in weighing up the question of whether convicted murderers should have their life terminated has always been the question of the possibility that a person found guilty of murder in a court of law, may subsequently be found innocent, thus in effecting the death penalty, the State would have taken the life of an innocent person.
Sadly, the truth about releasing murderers after a period on internment in a prison, is that many, many of those same murderers will re-offend with often multiple murders, before they are caught and re-interned in Prison.
The scales of justice in this case are badly out of balance: the re-offence rate for released murderers could work out at the possibility of one innocent person losing their life with the death penalty versus 100 innocent persons losing their life due to murderers being released after serving time in prison.
The question must be raised again: should the death penalty be re-instated ?
The Guardian newspaper published material that Mr. Edward Snowden had stolen from his employer, in the full knowledge that the material had been stolen. Under US and UK law the possession of stolen property, albeit intellectual, is a criminal offence; knowing this, the question arises about the relationship of prosecutors, police and politicians to the press and to why the Guardian was not charged with possession of stolen property? Are politicians afraid of future bad press? Why has the Guardian never been charged with possession of stolen property?
“Laws are made for law abiding citizens”
As in laws that are made to curb criminal activity are generally just “rhetorical” window dressing,
the criminals will ignore them and honest citizens will probably he hampered by them.
